Xavi, Selena and I made the annual trek up to Mom's house for New Year's Eve. We've made a tradition of spending the evening with our dear friend, Laura, and have recently added my mom to it. I love holidays where you are not required to buy gifts or send cards (what a grouch I am) and you can enjoy each other's company and eat a lot of good food! All of the other stuff has become too commercialized and I hate it. Anyway, for that reason I am a big fan of Thanksgiving and the New Year's holiday. This year, as in many occasions, Laura told some great stories about growing up in Florida with her Polish grandmother, and mom also told us some stories about farm life in a Norwegian community.

Above: Mom's Dickens village had grown every year until there was no more room for anything else.
Below: What a cutie! I wish there was more video of our conversation.
